Entertainer Kanye West’s footpath to the presidency has been hit with a crippling blow, as West did not submit the required petition with 10,000 signatures by today’s deadline to earn a place on the 2020 South Carolina presidential ballot in November, the Charleston Post & Courrier reports.
Announcing his candidacy on Twitter (of course) July 4th, West’s run for the Oval Office faces an uphill climb given that he has only made it onto one state ballot: Oklahoma, where candidates only have to pay a $35,000 filing fee to get on the form.
West held his first campaign rally in South Carolina yesterday. He attracted hundreds of people to the Exquis Event Center, a 12,000 square foot venue with a maximum capacity of 500 people.
During West’s rally, he called for free marijuana for everyone and “one million dollars” for everybody that has a baby, according to reports by ABC News. West did not detail how these programs would be run or funded.
