Former Fox News host Shepard Smith, now an anchor at CNBC, said that he felt his role at the beleaguered conservative network was to counter the false narratives of the opinion hosts on the network, and he left when he felt that he couldn’t do it anymore.

In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Smith said, “Opine all you like, but if you’re going to opine, begin with the truth and opine from there, and it’s the deviation from that that’s caused me the greatest concern.”
“Those of us who were so honored and grateful to have a platform of influence have to use it for the public good,” Smith continued. “I slept very well. I don’t know how some people sleep at night because I know there are a lot of people who have propagated the lies and have pushed them forward over and over again who are smart enough and educated enough to know better.”
