The iconic 32-story condo towers that help define the skyline of West Palm Beach will likely strip the name that has graced the structure for nearly 30 years, as the condo board voted unanimously to strip the “Trump” from Trump Plaza, the Palm Beach Post reports.
“The Trump brand is damaged, so rebranding the complex is a wise move,” said Burt Minkoff, a real estate agent with Douglas Elliman on Palm Beach.
The slight is the latest to scar Donald Trump, a temporary resident of Palm Beach, whose residential situation at Mar-a-Lago will be decided by the Palm Beach town council. At least four properties in the United States have stripped the Trump name from their properties, and his old Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City is slated for demolition.
The name change comes after the condo voted to keep signs bearing the Trump name off their condo towers, when the exterior of the structure was renovated in 2017. Later, the signage on street level was replaced with a simple street address sign, removing the Trump name from the exterior of the complex.
Back in 2017, then-board president Abe Bernstein told The Palm Beach Post, “Many of the residents here are international people and they consider the Trump name an asset.” That changed by February 2020, when the residents voted 178-20 to keep the signs off the top of the buildings.
