A newly-elected vice-chair of the Michigan Republican Party is seeking volunteers among their ranks to visit the addresses voters listed on their registrations to photograph the locations to “provide proof” of voter fraud, The Detroit News reports.
At Saturday’s State Party convention, Marian Sheridan of Oakland County was elected grassroots vice chair, one of six vice chairs in the organization. Two days later, she emailed GOP delegates asking for assistance on an “election integrity” project.
Sheridan claimed without evidence that “thousands of voters in Wayne County who were not registered at legal addresses.” Wayne County is the home of Detroit, and roughly 10% of the overall votes in the state came from the heavily-Democratic county.
“Many of these voters were registered to vacant lots or abandoned buildings,” Sheridan claimed, again without stating any evidence, and she wanted people “able to drive to some of these addresses and take pictures to provide proof.”
She added, “The goal is to collect a minimum of 100 such pictures.”
The state of Michigan allows homeless people to use a park address or a street corner as their address for voting registration purposes, so secure a voting precinct in a local election. People can also list an address where they receive mail, such as a post office box, a third party mail vendor (like a UPS store) or a relative’s address.
President Biden won Michigan by more than 150,000 votes. The state had an early influx of Republican votes as the day-of voting was tallied, but later in the evening as mail-in and absentee votes were counted, Democrat Joe Biden took a commanding lead in the state.
Republicans are trying to undermine confidence in the vote, even though local and state election officials certified the results nearly two months ago.
