Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called a press conference Thursday to declare that he was going to fight a travel restriction the Biden Administration said a day before it was not considering, Politico reports.
The indignant DeSantis declared that he would fight the non-existent policy declaring it “absurd” and “unconstitutional.”
On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki responded to a question about the non-existent restriction by saying, “We are always considering what steps are necessary to keep the American people safe, but we are not currently in the process of, no decisions have been made around additional public health measures that would delay or would change, I should say, domestic travel considerations.”
Given that the Florida economy is reliant on the tourism industry for tax revenue, the manufactured outrage over a policy not being considered might be thought applicable if such a policy were being proposed. DeSantis did not address a question from a reporter if he had contacted the Biden Administration to see if such a restriction were under consideration.
“Any attempt to restrict or lock down Florida by the federal government would be an attack on our state, done purely for political purposes,” DeSantis said at a Thursday press conference with self-righteous indignation.
