In a letter making its way around Capitol Hill, Florida GOP Senator Rick Scott, the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, implored Republican Senators to set aside differences and not tear the Party apart. Instead, Scott suggests in the letter obtained by Fox News, Republicans should concentrate the real threat to the Republic: Democrats.
“The Republican Civil War is now cancelled,” Scott declared, saying that the media and Democrats are stoking animosity with the GOP ranks without recognizing the existential threat to the Party presented by Donald Trump and those that are calling for the removal of Republicans who voted to impeach or convict Trump.
“This does not need to be true, should not be true, and will not be true. Those fanning these flames, in both the media and our own ranks, desire a GOP civil war,” Scott declares. “No, we don’t have time for that: The hour is late, the Democrats are planning to destroy our freedoms, and the threat in front of us is very real.”
As Republicans around the country introduce legislation to destroy the ability of people to vote, GOP local organizations at the state and county level have also attempted to “cancel” the views of Senators and Representatives who have voiced disapproval with Trump, with many of these groups voting to censure its members.
Trump himself has called for the removal of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who gave a scathing condemnation of Trump after voting to acquit him on dubious grounds during Trump’s second impeachment trial.
