Earlier this week, American Airlines sent 13,000 employees so-called Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notices, a legal notification that they would be laid off at the date specified. However, after Congress passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Act which included a continuation of the Payroll Support Program for airlines, the airline informed the employees to ignore them.
“Tear it up,” Doug Parker, the airline’s CEO, said in an Instagram message, noting that the employees will have job security until at least September 30th. “There aren’t going to be any layoffs at American Airlines in April, and with the vaccinations on the rise, hopefully never again.”
