After giving the cold shoulder to Biden Administration outreach for the last eight weeks, North Korea finally responded to US communications with a statement from Kim Jong-un’s sister, CNN reports.
“We take this opportunity to warn the new US administration trying hard to give off powder smell in our land,” Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of Kim Jong-un and a trusted advisor to the North Korean dictator, said in a statement. “If it wants to sleep in peace for (the) coming four years, it had better refrain from causing a stink at its first step.”
The missive comes as South Korea and the United States prepare for scheduled military exercises, which will be greatly scaled down and done mostly through simulations due to the coronavirus pandemic. US Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin are also in the region to meeting with their counterparts from South Korea and Japan, two key allies.
Donald Trump largely catered to the whims of Kim Jong-un, arranging to meet him twice and promote the legitimacy of the North Korean regime, calling Kim a “smart cookie” for murdering opponents. Trump falsely claimed that he got an agreement from Kim to discontinue their nuclear weapons programs, and Trump asserted that he deserved the “Noble Peace Prize” for his efforts.
Trump never got the Nobel Peace Prize, an internationally-recognized honor awarded to people who have worked for the advancement of world peace.
