Kentucky Republican Congressman Hal Rogers has been fined $5,000 by the House Sergeant at Arms for intentionally avoiding security screenings while entering the House chamber, Andrew Solender of Forbes reports on Twitter.
Rogers has appealed the fine to the House Ethics Committee, which had previously turned down appeals for the same offense from Republicans Louie Gohmert of Texas and Andrew Clyde of Georgia.
After the January 6th domestic terrorist attack on the Capitol, the House installed metal detectors at the door to the House chamber to ensure no members were carrying weapons onto the floor, in violation of House rules. The fines are $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for every subsequent offense.
