Noting that he got things done when he was vice president, President Joe Biden dismissed a vow by Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell that he is “100 percent” committed to blocking any of Biden’s programs, the Washington Post reports.
“He said that about the last administration — about Barack, that he was going to stop everything — and I was able to get a lot done with him,” Biden said.
McConnell said during an event in Georgetown, Kentucky that he would do anything to prevent Biden’s agenda from succeeding. “One hundred percent of my focus is on stopping this new administration,” McConnell said. “I think the best way to look at what this new administration is: The president may have won the nomination, but Bernie Sanders won the argument.”
This is apparently a new tact in the GOP’s campaign against Biden, who has enjoyed majority support for his policies and his presidency in the first 100-plus days of his administration.
When Barack Obama was inaugurated the first time, McConnell told the National Journal, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” Obama went on to win re-election and finish his second term with a 60+ percentage approval rating. McConnell currently enjoys just a 26% job approval, with a net-negative by 31 percentage points.
