Fox News host (and individual who personifies why Dancing with the Stars is a misnomer) Tucker Carlson interviewed Sid Miller, the Agriculture Commissioner of Texas, to discuss a state bill that would prevent gender reassignment surgery on children under the age of 18.
Now, before we go on, I just want to point out that that was not a typo. Carlson actually had on the guy in charge of regulating and assisting Texas farmers and ranchers on his show to discuss LGBTQ legislation. And Miller, in cowboy hat and with six-shooter pin on his lapel, dutifully complied, because an Agriculture Commissioner knows so much about transgender issues, right? The guy responsible for animal husbandry is now the go-to expert for Tucker Carlson on transgender issues.
Carlson commented that “not a lot of sane people are for mutilating children” (while somehow forgetting about circumcision, which it a-okay with Carlson), and he did so without mentioning that American Medical Association guidelines prevent gender reassignment surgery on anyone under the age of 18.
The Texas bill, however, would block providing puberty-blocking medication or hormone therapy to anyone under 18 under any circumstance. Girls couldn’t get testosterone; boys couldn’t get estrogen. (Put aside that everyone has estrogen and testosterone in their systems natural, regardless of gender. It’s Texas. Science is secondary.) Carlson’s whine: that some Republicans are blocking the legislation.
Miller went on to say that in Texas “we don’t let out minors smoke cigarettes. We don’t let ’em drink alcohol. We don’t let ’em engage in sex, sexual activity.”
So in Miller’s skewed view of reality, kids in Texas don’t smoke, drink or have sex. At all. ‘Cause The Law says so.
But, Miller alleges, “we will let them be mutilated.” (Again, I point to the AMA guidelines.) “This ‘gender modification’ has got to stop. It’s ‘cowboy logic’,” says the man who regulates people who put their hands up cows’ uteruses to impregnate them.
“Some of these children have this done to ’em as young as two years old!” Miller asserted. (There is no record of a single case of gender reassignment surgery being done in Texas on a two-year-old.)
Carlson decried Republicans–even in Texas!–falling prey to the influence of “woke” corporations. Even the governor, Carlson lamented, is pushing back against the legislation. Miller claimed “woke… wadn’t [sic] even a word a year ago.” Miller apparently never woke up from a nap he started in 1950.
But then Miller went on to himself lament that Texas was once “the shining light of the whole nation”… maybe because of the multiple chemical plant explosions or oil refinery fires. Texas was a state, he said, “other states used to look to us on what we’re doing on job creation, taxes, regulation, and now, notsomuch.”
That’s true. Texas ranks in the lower half in the US in education, right in the middle on median household income, and is highest in the incarceration rate in the US. And then, there’s the whole “power grid went out for a week killing scores of people”–which Carlson helpful (and falsely) noted happened ” ’cause the windmills froze.”
“They look at Texas and see something like this happen and they laugh at us,” Miller said. “I can’t believe those Texans are allowin’ that to happen’.”
That’s right, Commissioner Miller. We are laughing at you. And not because your top advisor was arrested last night for taking bribes… something Carlson failed to mention.
Carlson then segued to his next segment, which was a “special insider report” on how the Disney Company no longer represents American values like they once did… which to Carlson apparently means the racist way their early cartoons depicted minorities. But he’s just asking questions, right?
