Agents for the US Customs and Border Patrol stopped a major shipment of illegal goods being shipped into the airport in New Orleans, Louisiana: an eye-popping 3,000 pairs of false eyelashes.
The Associated Press reports that the 3,000 boxes were ordered by a local beauty supply company from a Chinese manufacturer, but the product hadn’t been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
“There’s no telling what’s on these eyelashes,” agency spokesperson Matthew Dyman said. He noted that the packaging could contain an unknown bacteria or virus; that they could have an unknown insect infestation; or that they were stored properly so that the adhesive was safe.
