In the 2018 race for Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis beat Andrew Gillum by only 33,000 votes. According to the website Worldometer, Florida has now exceeded 43,000 deaths from Coronavirus, and given that the rate of new Covid19 deaths exceeded 1000 within the past week (the state reported 1728 deaths in the week ending August 28th), and that the demographics of current Covid19 deaths are 99% anti-vaxxers to 1% breakthrough infections of the vaccinated, it’s pretty much guaranteed that by the time November of 2022 rolls around, so many DeSantis supporters will have died, or will be so disgusted with him because they lost an anti-vax family member to Covid, that there’s simply no way he will be able to win a statewide race.
The 2022 Governor’s race in Florida will be key to DeSantis’s Presidential hopes. Running for President after losing to Nikki Fried or Charlie Crist in the Florida Governor’s race would make him look like a complete loser, and doom any hopes of winning the White House. And what is DeSantis doing as his supporters are literally dying off? Is he aggressively fighting Covid and hoping to expand his base? Nope, he’s fighting against mask mandates in public schools hoping to appeal to that base that’s currently dying from Covid at the rate of over 1000 people per week.
It should be noted that DeSantis’s abject failure at managing Covid isn’t the only dark cloud on his horizon. He also proved himself to be a corrupt authoritarian stooge with the passage of his HB-60 anti-civil rights act, a piece of legislation that was designed to allow corrupt MAGA police officers to mutilate and murder civil rights activists in the state of Florida. Democrats are currently in the process of challenging that law in court, and hopefully the media will eventually start doing their job and point out just how corrosive that bill really is.
DeSantis also has to worry about the teen sex trafficking ring that was run by Matt Gaetz and Joel Greenberg. DeSantis has very little worry about backlash from Florida Republicans on this issue, because most Florida Republicans are wife-swapping swingers and sex perverts of various stripes. What he does have to worry about is that if it’s discovered that he was involved in the teen prostitute orgies that Gaetz hosted, that could result in criminal charges, and a Federal Prison sentence. Would the Republican Party really be willing to support a Presidential candidate who is running his campaign from a Federal prison after being convicted of charges of statutory rape and patronizing a prostitute who was under the age of 18?
Ron DeSantis’s complete failure at managing the Covid19 crisis in Florida is literally resulting in the extinction of the Republican advantage in gubernatorial races. DeSantis’s authoritarian nonsense, and his passage of a law designed to allow for the mutilation and murder of civil rights activists makes it clear that he is an authoritarian stooge who has no interest in upholding or preserving either the Florida or US Constitution. DeSantis could also suffer if it’s discovered that he is a depraved sex pervert who attended teen prostitute orgies hosted by Matt Gaetz.
