A seven-year-old African-American boy from Chatham County became Georgia’s youngest coronavirus fatality yesterday, as the state pushes schools to open, the Associated Press reports.
The boy had no underlying health issues, according to the county health department. The previous youngest fatality in the state was a 17-year-old African-American boy from Fulton County who had an undisclosed medical condition.
Georgia has seen a spike in cases lately, but many school districts are opening with full in-person instruction. Photographs of crowded hallways, with few students wearing masks, have gone viral as students note the unsafe condition.
