“It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so why not celebrating early? Syracuse radio station Y94FM (WYYY-FM) switched to all Christmas music on Friday, nearly three weeks before Thanksgiving. ‘Ho ho ho! If you’re ready for holiday tunes…check out Y94, in Syracuse or on the iHeartRadio app,'” reports Syracuse.com.
“Really? Do we actually need this? This is why we’re known as the kind of town where naked people get stuck in walls,” said one Syracuse resident.
“The iHeartMedia-owned adult contemporary station switched to ‘Syracuse’s Christmas Station’ around 5 p.m., updating its website and Facebook page with a red-and-green logo decorated with holly.”
“Y94FM is not alone in spreading Christmas cheer early. Star 102.5 (WTSS-FM) in Buffalo and Albany-area radio stations 98.3 WTRY (WTRY-FM) and 103.9 The Breeze (WPBZ-FM) all flipped format to festive tunes on Monday, Nov. 1, the day after Halloween.”
One Syracuse resident claimed to be reminded of a joke from former Daily Show host Jon Stewart who quipped, “It’s more like Christmas declared war on Halloween and Thanksgiving, and it’s kicking their ass!”
