November 7th, 2020 is a date that shall live in infamy. Victory Trump Day in America, when jubilant throngs filled the streets to celebrate the electoral defeat of the fascist, genocidal regime which had occupied the seat of its own government for four years full of disgrace and dishonor.
Amid the church bells ringing in cities across Europe, the raucous partying in New York’s Times Square, and the sweeter, smaller moments of love and affection, there was the one comically inept reaction that foreshadowed the increasingly insane and ultimately bloody and violent death spiral for the MAGA Reich. And it happened in a random Philadelphia, Pennsylvania landscaping company’s parking lot, between a crematorium and a porn store, with at least one convicted sex offender standing on the makeshift “stage” alongside former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani:
The background story of how the Four Seasons hotel press conference became the Four Seasons Total Landscaping Parking Lot press conference is still not really clear owing to the opacity of the opportunistic but probably not really actually pro-MAGA owners of the outfit and the laughable, but understandable embarrassment of Trump campaign staff who just wanted to forget it happened. It was just too goddamned perfect that right in the middle of Rudy’s insane rant did the final call “JOSEPH R BIDEN JR ELECTED 46TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES” come from all the major news networks’ decision desks and his childish reaction was but just one humiliation on the day of the lowest ebb of the American right wing’s power in over a decade (up until that point).
Elated crowds in New York City celebrate the defeat of Trump on November 7th, 2020.
Entropy is a hell of a weight on the human experience, and one that never bears down evenly or consistently. Some things that happen are simply inelastic. Pompeii will never be unburied by Vesuvius. The Titanic will never make it to New York City. Herman Cain will never visit Tulsa again.
Other events are much more fleeting. To stand and scream triumphantly one day, deriding and mocking our lessers’ misery and incompetence, only for most of us to be moribund about everything 365 of them later is… well, it fucking sucks. There’s a reason why National Zero didn’t publish a retrospective on Wednesday, a year after Election Day 2020 itself. The mood wasn’t right after the beating Democrats took in Virginia, New Jersey, and elsewhere on Tuesday night. Nobody in their right mind believed the Democrats were going to be dominant forever, but the tables turning so quickly and so brutally shocked even some of the most cynical observers.
Look at it another way however: Glenn Youngkin didn’t threaten his ex-fiancee with a gun, molest teenage girls in the 1980s, or go on TV and start explaining the difference between a legitimate rape and an illegitimate one. He ran a smart campaign and stayed away from the MAGA bullshit. He won the moderates because he kept Trump and Trumpism at arm’s length. The cult may have turned out for Youngkin in droves but I would bet at least a dozen cases of Modelo Especial that more than a few of them are going to be calling for his head for governing too moderately a year from now. Youngkin couldn’t have won without them, but more importantly was the moderate vote he was able to appeal to by sufficiently distancing himself from Trumpism in their minds.
That right there is the lasting effect of the Orange God Emperor’s downfall. It’s a tacit admission, that at the end of the day, no matter how much “enthusiasm” he brings or money he helps raise or power he still wields over the GOP, Trump is a fucking loser and he always will be.
Not a single day has gone by since the 2020 election that there hasn’t been an article published here on National Zero that in some way relates to the inability of Trump or his fans to cope with the loss. Not a single fucking day. At least once a day there’s been an article about these bullshit “audits”, some asshole Capitol rioter in court, some MyPillow Kraken conspiracy theory whatever it is. Three hundred sixty five days later they still cannot cope with the loss. They made up all of these stories and excuses because they’re weak and cowardly and there’s nothing else to it.
Nothing else except for the true bottom line: You can believe in the Venezuelan Supercomputer or Chinese Thermostats or the Italian Satellites or that German Server or whatever the hell those morons think “stole the election”, you can believe the medium-level bullshit theory that the states “illegally” made it too easy for people to vote in the middle of a pandemic and “the media rigged the election against Trump”, or you can be normal and know the indisputable fact that Biden received more legitimate votes than Trump did in enough states to gain enough electoral college votes to surpass the 270 vote majority requirement and thus the presidency.
It does not matter what version you believe. Because if Trump truly believed the wildest fantasies too, that some vast international conspiracy stacked the deck against him, and the evidence was right there in front of you libtards and RINOs, he still just sat on his fat ass and tweeted. He did not appoint a special counsel, declare martial law or invoke the insurrection act and seize control all the voting machines, or send Green Berets to Germany to eliminate the shadowy evil that attacked America’s election. He didn’t do those things to remain in power. The best he could do was whip up his white trash fans into a violent attack on the Capitol that left four of them dead and hundreds of others facing prison time for the insurrection. Then he just gave up and left office.
There’s the projection of immense power. Then there’s the reality under the projection. The dirty, filthy reality of a horde of life’s losers attacking a co-equal branch of government and smearing shit on the walls of the temple of democracy, a gubernatorial candidate using then discarding him, and a wetbrained moron screaming in a parking lot between a porn store and a crematorium.
