The FBI has undertaken an investigation into an incident in which at least one shot was fired at a US Air Force helicopter in flight over Middleburg, Virginia, on Monday resulting in one crew member injured, the Associated Press reports.
The UH-1N Huey helicopter landed safely at Manassas Regional Airport, about 50 miles west of Washington, DC, and the injured crew member was treated and released from the hospital.
The helicopter was on a routine training mission, flying at approximately 1,000 feet altitude, when it was struck by at least one bullet. The aircraft sustained minor damage.
The helicopter is part of the 1st Helicopter Squadron at Joint Base Andrews, which typically transports civilian and military VIPs in and around Washington, DC.
