The Army Corps of Engineers has asked companies to submit plans and proposals to install floating barriers along the waterways bordering Mexico in an effort to prevent entry into the US through illegal border crossings, the Washington Post reports.
Dubbed the “Buoy Barrier System,” the water-wall would ideally prevent swimmers from climbing over it and have mesh or fencing below it to prevent people from swimming under it, according to descriptions sent to potential contractors.
The proposed water-wall would allow the federal government to build a barrier in areas where private landowners have fought efforts for the federal government to seize their property through eminent domain claims.
Trump’s $15 billion border barrier project has completed 275 of fencing, including new and replacement barriers, with another 175 miles planned to be completed by the end of the year.
