New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D) announced Friday that the state will mail out general election ballots to all voters in response to growing concerns about the coronavirus, the New York Times reports.
The plan laid out by Murphy would allow ballots to be postmarked by election day, November 3rd. Ballots must be received by November 10th. Ballots that do not have a postmark, for whatever reason, but are received through the mail must be in the possession of the local election board by November 5th.
Voters may still cast a ballot in person during the state’s early voting period or on election day.
New Jersey used a similar hybrid system in its July primary with little problems. The Trump campaign spotlights one incident in Paterson, where four people are charged with fraud after a bundle of more than 300 ballots were found by a postal employee five days before the election.
