President Joe Biden will talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin late Saturday afternoon in the latest attempt to reduce tensions with 130,000 Russian troops amassed at the country’s border with Ukraine, the Washington Post reports.
The White House responded to a request from the Kremlin to have a call on Monday and suggest they move the timing up to Saturday. The White House has urged Americans in Ukraine to leave the country in the next 48 hours, and they’ve said the US military will not be sent to rescue stragglers.
Biden also deployed 3,000 troops to Poland as a deterrent to Russian aggression in the region. The White House has said Russia could launch an invasion of Ukraine before the end of the Olympics in a week.
