The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, will address the Tuesday night session of the Democratic National Convention, meaning all three living former Democratic presidents will participate in this year’s convention, according to the Associated Press.
The 95-year-old Carter, who has battled cancer in the last few years, will make a speech with his wife, Rosalynn. Carter did not address the 2016 DNC.
President Bill Clinton is also scheduled to speak Tuesday night, and President Barack Obama will address the convention Wednesday.
Since leaving office 1981, Carter has been very active in worldwide activities to help the poor and underprivileged, including through Habitat for Humanity.
At this point, the only living former republican president, George W. Bush, is not scheduled to address the 2020 republican National Convention. Bush has not attended an RNC convention since 2004, when he was nominated for a second term. He did issue a videotaped message that was shown at the 2008 convention when the McCain-Palin ticket was nominated, but did not participate in either the 2012 or 2016 meetings.
