Future US President Donald J. Trump once sent a fan boi letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, declaring “I’m a big fan of yours!”–a statement that he emphasized by underlining in his signature Sharpie, according to Forbes magazine.
An addendum to the 1,000-page report released by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Russian interference in 2016 election, which outlined extensive contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence operatives, included a photocopy of the letter, available on the Forbes link above.
Trump sent Putin the letter in December 2007 after Time Magazine named Putin “Person of the Year.” In the fawning letter, Trump said Putin “definitely deserve[s] it.”
The Senate report avers that Trump and a number of people in Trump’s circle, including 2016 Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort, lied about contacts between the campaign and Russian agents.
