Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law requiring the use of an electronic voting system in upcoming regional elections that candidates have claimed are how ballot manipulation was conducted in the past, Reuters reports.
The system was using in some regions for the Russian parliamentary elections held in 2021, with some races being questioned by losing candidates who were expected to perform stronger in the vote counts.
Putin’s order allows the system to be used in any regional or national election in Russia, or for any referendum on the ballot.
