Yvan Colonna, a Corsican nationalist terrorist who was serving a life sentence for the 1998 murder of the French island’s prefect, Claude Érignac, has died following an assault by his fellow inmate, Islamic terrorist Elong Abé, the BBC reports. Abé beat and suffocated Colonna with a garbage bag in the prison’s gym after Colonna had mocked Islam and the Prophet Mohammed on March 2nd and had been lingering in a coma for three weeks before dying in a hospital Monday. The beatdown caused the worst rioting in decades on Corsica by nationalists who believed the French government allowed the attack to happen or even staged it and blamed it on Abé. Some 67 people were injured, 44 of them cops on the worst night of the rioting. French President Emmanuel Macron said this month the government is looking into offering greater autonomy to Corsica.
