Vladimir Putin, apparently more concerned that Western orchestra houses are dialing back on the Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninov sets than the Ukrainian army absolutely fucking shit up for them, went off against cancel culture in a Friday rant, Reuters reports.
Responding to reports that Western arts organizations have stopped performing pieces by Russian composers in protest, Putin lamented the result in Friday television address. “Today they are trying to cancel a whole thousand-year culture, our people. Today they are trying to cancel a whole thousand-year culture, our people,” Putin said, citing the cancellation of events involving Russian artists in some Western countries. I am talking about the gradual discrimination against everything linked to Russia… a tendency unfolding in a number of Western countries.”
In totally unrelated news, the Ukrainian army is now in possession of 117 more functioning tanks than they had two months ago, all stolen from Russian forces.
