South African native Trevor Noah hosted the first White House Correspondents’ Dinner in three years, mixing in a fair among of jokes about President Joe Biden, who took them all in good humor.
Noah finished the night with a lesson to the assembled members of the media, asking them to remember their freedoms, privileges and responsibilities they have in the United States. Noah pointed out that he was making fun of the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world, and he was not at risk of any punishment.
The audience’s colleagues in Russia, for example, do not have those freedoms, and the US was the only country where something like this could happen. (Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but the message is understood.)
