The US Army has put out an alert for a missing soldier from Fort Hood, Texas who is a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist with the 1st Cavalry Division Sustainment Brigade, NBC News reports.
Twenty-three-year-old Sgt. Elder Fernandes was last seen Monday evening when his staff sergeant dropped him at his home in Killeen after work. He was reported missing Wednesday, his family said.
Originally from Cape Verde in West Africa, Fernandes had been hospitalized for four or five days prior to going missing. His family did not know why he was hospitalized, said his mother, Ailiana Fernandes, who lives in Massachusetts.
Earlier this year, 20-year-old Army Specialist Vanessa Guillén went missing. Her remains were found in April in a Fort Hood armory. Another enlisted soldier, Aaron David Robinson, is charged with her murder.
