After claiming, without any evidence, that video games cause children to be more violent–which is demonstrably untrue given nations like Canada, Japan and Germany all have similar rates of people playing video games but minuscule rates of gun crimes compared to the US–Republican Oklahoma Congressman and master of the idiotic metaphor Mark Wayne “Markwayne” Mullin, a former mixed martial arts competitor, explains how allowing people to have assault weapons in public is just as scary as… being stuck on the DC subway.
Yo-, the-, the Left, everybody knows has been wantin’ to get rid of the Second Amendment. Why? Because people fear things that they don’t understand, an- and that’s a, that I can understand but that doesn’t mean doesn’t mean we should just ban everythin’ and I don’t get on the Metro in DC because I don’t like it. [Narrator: Black people also take the Metro in DC.] I honestly don’t, I kinda, somewhat fear it because I stuck on it once [Narrator: … with Black people]. Doesn’t mean I want to band [sic] it. Let’s just educate ourselves about issues. Let’s educate ourselves about what’s goin’ on in our neighborhoods. But for Ka-ka-Ka-mahl-la Harris and for President Biden to go out there an politicize and take this stragity [sic] and try to make it for a political gain for them is absolutely absurd and ridiculous and it should never have place here and that’s exactly where they’re gonna go. They’re gonna go past th-every other issue and go straight to gun control.
Some points: Democrats tried preventing mentally ill people from getting guns after the Sandy Hook massacre nearly a decade ago, but the GOP prevented that from happening. Democrats have promoted mental health care through the Affordable Care Act, which the GOP has tried to undermine literally hundreds of times. And Markwayne, the people who control the Metro trains are trained professionals, not some 18-year-old who decides he wants to drive a train to kill 20 people. So if you actually talked to people in DC, including those on Metro trains and those without the same skin tone as you, you might actually feel more comfortable about riding in a Metro car with them.
