The republicans, apparently, have an enthusiasm problem. Network viewership for the opening night of the republican National Convention lagged behind Night 1 of the Democratic National Convention by 14%, according to Variety.
Only 4.9 million viewers tuned into the first night of the RNC, which features such headliners as a coffee shop owner, a couple indicted for brandishing guns at people and a very loud girlfriend of the president’s son. Oh, and Tim Scott, likely to be the only Black republican in Congress in 2021.
The network viewership was less than half the network viewership of the opening night of the 2016 RNC convention.
