Four Brazilian military officers and one federal cop are under arrest and accused of having plotted to assassinate President Luiz Lula following his defeat of corrupt dictator Jair Bolsonaro in the heated aftermath of the closely-contested 2022 national election, the Associated Press reports.

Famed Russian ballet dancer Vladimir Shklyarov died of a gravity overdose in Saint Petersburg over the weekend after what state media claims was a fall from a 5th floor balcony while Shklyarov was stoned on painkillers he was taking before undergoing back surgery, CBS News reports.

Shklyarov’s “loss is deeply felt by the entire Mariinsky family and the wider ballet world,” his employers at the Mariinsky theater said Monday in a statement that did not address the circumstances of Shklyarov’s death. There are a lot of layers to this:  a Brooklyn parish priest who previously made headlines for allowing a pop singer to use the church’s altar as the set for a racy music video, has now been relieved of administrative duties after an audit found he gave $1.9 million of parish funds to indicted New York Mayor Eric Adams’ former chief of staff.

Between 2019 and 2021, according to the Associated Press, Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello sent the money to funds controlled by former Adams’ aide Frank Carone, who has since returned more than $1 million of the funds plus interest.  The diocese had previously suspended Gigantiello after the monsignor gave pop singer Sabrina Carpenter permission to use the church in the video for her song “Feathers.”  In both cases, the diocese said the monsignor was suspended for not using official channels to get permission, which makes one wonder what paperwork one needs to fill out to properly writhe at an altar?

Byron was one of seven tour drummers who worked with Bee Gees on tours during the years, but he may have benefited the most because he worked with the Gibb Brothers during the disco’s peak in the 1970s and early ’80s.  Five other former Bee Gees drummers can still keep the beat.

A man who thought his celebrity status as a reality show star allowed him to sexually assault women named an alumnus of arguably the original reality show to be his Secretary of Transportation, NBC News reports.  “The Apprentice” star Donald Trump named former “Real World: Season Six” character Sean Duffy, a one-time Congressman turned Fox pundit, to run the nation’s multiple air, roadway, rail and waterway systems.  When he was in Congress, Duffy did not sit on any transportation-related committees, nor has he had a job in the transportation industry.

A second woman testified before the House Ethics Committee that she was paid by former Florida Congressman and current Republican Attorney General-designate Matt Gaetz for sex, says her attorney, who also represents another woman who testified that she was not only paid by Gaetz for sex, but also witnessed Gaetz having sex with a minor, the Washington Post reports.

According to Florida attorney Joel Leppard, his first client saw Gaetz having sex with an underage girl at a “drug-fueled” 2017 party; Gaetz was sworn into Congress in January 2017.  According to the witness, Gaetz did not know the girl’s age at the time, but learned it later.

The two women testified to the House Ethics Committee that Gaetz paid them to have sex using various online financial apps and accounts to hide the payments including an account under the name of Gaetz’s alleged adopted son, Nestor, Leppard told the Post.
