The one item on the MAGA wish list they did manage to include is denying funding for the FBI to build its long-planned new campus outside of DC.

The explanation is always “you’re still supposed to trust the topline even if the crosstabs are all fucked up” for some goddamned reason that we’re not even going to bother with tracking down and trying to translate because it’s probably bullshit, overly reliant on assumptions that laypeople – even ones without a partisan dog in the fight – are unwilling to buy into, laden with confusing jargon, et cetera.

The Fox News poll that Trump and his minions freaked out over last week showing Biden ahead 50 to 48 percent had a similar problem: Who the hell thinks that Biden is leading Trump by the same margin among rural voters? That they also supposedly found them tied at 38 with urban voter respondents is maybe sort of an offset that helps the topline’s credibility, somewhat.

In a lengthy new leak to ABC News about the lead-up to the August 2022 FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith’s team lay out much more of their evidence demonstrating convicted felon former President Trump’s consciousness of guilt in possessing classified documents stolen from the White House following his humiliating defeat to Joe Biden in the 2020 election, a leak pretty obviously timed to undermine the authority of MAGA federal judge Aileen Cannon as she continues to purposely stall the case to Trump’s advantage politically.

The leak, centered on lawyer Evan Corcoran’s notes, show a former president who was convinced he was damned if he did, damned if he didn’t return the stolen material, with Corcoran writing “He raised a question as to, if we gave them additional documents now, would they, would they, the Department of Justice, come back and say well, why did you withhold them and try to use that as a basis for criminal liability or to make him look bad in the press,” in notes memorializing a May 2022 meeting about the subpoena for their return. “Well look isn’t it better if there are no documents?” Trump also asked his lawyers after raising concerns about the DOJ “opening up new fronts.”

Texas Republican drunk Ronny Johnson Jackson, a man whose improper dispensing of prescription drugs while White House Physician during the Trump Administration earned him a demotion after his retirement from the Navy, has been under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for misuse of campaign funds to pay for a personal membership to a private club, Amarillo news outlet MyHighPlains.com reports.

According to a preliminary report, Jackson “continued to use campaign funds to pay for unlimited access to the Amarillo Club, a private dining club located in Amarillo, Texas–despite Rep. Jackson being aware of the OCE’s December 2021 referral finding substantial reason to believe that the dues payments were not legitimate and verifiable campaign expenditures.”  So Jackson was using funds from his first campaign in 2020 to pay the club fees, was caught, told “Don’t do this!” and continued to do it.  Sounds like the actions of an addict.

Walter Ringfield, a temporary worker at the Maricopa County elections office, was charged with theft and criminal damage after he stole a security fob and keys that provided access to software used during the election tabulation process, CNN reports.  The man was seen on security cams walking by a cubicle, then reaching inside and taking a set of keys on a lanyard from the cubicle.

After a search of Ringfield’s car turned up nothing, police obtained a search warrant for his home, where the stolen items were found.   Because of security protocols, all the fobs and the secure tablets they were assigned to must be reprogramed, an effort that will cost the county at least $19,000.  Ringfield’s motive for stealing the keys and security fob are still unknown.

A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association presents data showing a link between Texas’s new anti-abortion law and an increase in the state’s infant mortality rate, USA Today reports.  “It just points to some of the devastating consequences of abortion bans that maybe people weren’t thinking about when they passed these laws,” co-author Alison Gemmill, an assistant professor at The Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, said.

It shouldn’t be a shock that when you force pregnant patients to give birth to neonates that have no reasonable chance of survival because of in utero developmental defects, you’re going to have an increase in infant death.  And you’re also going to have a significant increase in the grief, depression, and damage to the families impacted by the death of an infant after a government-demanded full-term pregnancy.

Texas already has the 18th worst maternal mortality rate in America, 20% higher than the national average.  Future data will show increase in the state’s maternal mortality rate as patients are denied treatment for problem pregnancies.  Also not a shocker:  the 17 states ranking higher are all “red states” or recently red states like Virginia and Arizona.  If you look at the data, living in a Gulf Coast state adds a level of lethality to pregnancy.

Doing everything–even futile acts of legal wrangling–they can to serve their client, Hunter Biden’s attorneys filed a motion with the court requesting it vacate Biden’s recent guilty verdict on federal charges on a procedural technicality, ABC News reports.

Asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper if she’s lost faith in the Supreme Court given the myriad corruption scandals plaguing the Court from the Alitos’ flags to the Thomas’s luxury vacations, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi questioned the leadership of John Roberts:  “No, I think they’ve gone rogue.  It’s most unfortunate.  But it’s unfortunate further to see what the other Justices– what happened, what happened to the Chief Justice?  Did he go weak, or did he go rogue?  I don’t know.”

A Kremlin spokesperson blamed the United States for a Ukrainian attack on Russian-held Crimea using American-made ATACMS missiles that killed at least four people and injured more than 150 and vowed , Reuters reports.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry informed the US Ambassador to Russia that the United States was “waging a hybrid war against Russia and has actually become a party to the conflict,” claiming that American resources were used to target and direct the missile strike. “Retaliatory measures will definitely follow,” it vowed.

A dam on the Blue Earth River near Rapidan, Minnesota was reportedly in “imminent failure condition” on Monday and suffered a partial breach as river waters took down a small section of the structure, destroying a home, according to CBS News.  The Rapidan Dam was reaching critical stress levels when the river tore through the west abutment and took out the roadway running over the concrete dam, but the river redirected back into the riverbed potentially minimizing damage downstream and relieving the pressure on the 114-year-old structure.  Because the overflow is staying within the riverbed, officials have not ordered evacuations downstream.

Perpetual fugitive and couch crasher Jullian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, reached a deal with US officials that would allow him to go free with American officials crediting him for the five years he served in a British prison, NBC News reports.

According to court documents, Assange was charged by criminal information with conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information in a sign that a deal has already been done.  Assange is charged in relation to releasing thousands of pages of classified documents disclosed by Chelsea Manning.

Apparently fed up with waiting for a network or someone to make a call in the now six-days removed Virginia 5th District primary between incumbent far right extremist Congressman Bob Good and also extreme far right but more loyal challenger state Senator John McGuire, convicted felon former President Trump on Monday just went ahead and declared McGuire the victor anyway, posting the signature pic of himself with a sly, shit-eating half-grin and McGuire’s kind of slightly-off face photoshopped together in an endorsement win template on Truth Social. It’s true that McGuire’s lead has widened since last week but we’re talking it’s at 373 when on Thursday it was at 321.

So yeah he’s probably ultimately going to be right about McGuire winning, even as Good is making noises about a fight. Elections are very hard to overturn even at this low of margins. It’s also very on-brand for Trump to simply say his guy won when no independent sources are saying the same.
