Virginia 5th GOP primary still too close to call

More than 24 hours after the polls closed for Virginia’s Congressional primaries and the most high-profile race is still undecided, illustrating the growing rift in the Republican Party’s extreme wing.  As the Washington Post reports, Virginia’s GOP primary for the 5th Congressional District seat is a dogfight between incumbent Freedom Caucus leader Bob Good and Trump-endorsed über-MAGA John J. McGuire III.  With 97.8% of the votes counted, McGuire leads Good by 321 votes out of more than 62,000 cast.

The thing is, McGuire isn’t really any more MAGA than any other member of the cult, and he’s certain not more conservative than Bob Good, who not only was Trump’s endorsee in previous election, he voted to oust Kevin McCarthy from the Speakership.  McGuire got Trump’s endorsement because he’s not Bob Good, who committed the venal sin of endorsing Trump opponent Ron DeSantis in the GOP presidential primary.  There can be no dissent.

Ecuador goes dark

Demonstrating for Texas what can happen when you don’t address vital infrastructure, the entire nation of Ecuador lost electricity on Wednesday after power lines around the country started to fail, causing a cascade effect that took down the nation’s power grid, NBC News reports.

“There is a failure in the transmission line that caused a cascade disconnection, so there’s no electricity at a national scale,” Public Works Minister Roberto Luque, who also serves as Ecudor’s energy minister while there’s a vacancy in the post.  Passengers were stuck on the subway in the capital city of Quito, while above ground, traffic grew chaotic after traffic light went dark.

Louisiana forces all public schools to display Ten Commandments

Louisiana’s Republican-led government enacted a law requiring the Ten Commandments from the Old Testament to be displayed in all public school classrooms in the state, erasing the accepted line separating church and state, the CBS News reports.  Signed by GOP Governor Jeff Landy, the law makes Louisiana the first state t mandate the display of the religious laws in classrooms from kindergarten to state-funded universities.  Along with the biblical text, the display must include a “context panel” that explains the Ten Commandments “were a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries,” which is unusual given the United States is not yet 250 years old.

McDonald’s employee shoots at customers for once

A McDonald’s employee in Lakeland, Florida turned the tables against the chain’s notoriously irate customer base Friday by firing several rounds at a pair of unruly patrons who had been giving her shit about their order being screwed up or taking too long or something, Fox News reports.

The arrest report for 22 year-old Chassidy Gardner describes an escalating drive-thru dispute in which “two of the customers got out of their vehicle and opened the drive through window to throw drinks at Gardner who then armed herself with a handgun” and followed the pair out to the front to argue with them some more, firing the gun as they sped off. At least one round struck the vehicle but no one was injured. Gardner was charged aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Sunak bodyguard arrested for placing bets on election date

A “close protection officer” to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been arrested and suspended for allegedly betting on the date of the country’s general election, Sky News reports.

A little background: While online gambling in the US is pretty much limited to sports, in Europe you can bet on pretty much anything, including politics. Earlier this year there was a big mystery over the date Sunak would announce over the special election. You see where we’re going with this, and that it’s an insider trading/Pete Rose type of situation. Will add however we’re kind of confused about why it’s illegal rather than just a fireable unbecoming of an officer. The prick cashed in and made a few bucks off the suckers who couldn’t maybe comprehend that someone else might have an edge.

North Dakota Republican files FCC complaint over fake mass texts

North Dakota Public Service Commission member and nominee for the state’s soon-to-be-vacant at-large US House seat Julie Fedorchak on Tuesday filed complaints with the FCC and FEC over a fake mass text message sent last Tuesday to thousands of voters, falsely claiming she had dropped out of the race just hours before polls closed on primary election day, KFGO reports.

Obviously Fedorchak still won, given that she’s the nominee, having taken 46 percent of the vote over rivals Rick Becker, Cara Mund, and Alexander Balazs. “We’ve alerted the US Attorney’s Office to this because they have a responsibility to ensure that our elections are run in ways that aren’t patently deceptive to voters and they have a responsibility to ensure that elections are run in a fair and impartial manner,” said campaign counsel Shane Goettle, who didn’t otherwise name names as to which one of her opponents was behind the failed Roger Stone/Nick Wohl-esque scam.

We guess it could have been a Democrat but… It’s not like all Dems are saints and would never, ever pull this kind of shit, it’s just that it seems kind of not really worth the risk when you consider that it’d be a toss-up between her and Dem candidate Trygve Hammer if Fedorchak turned out to be biologically male and was caught sprinkling fentanyl on the stuffed animal section of a toy store.

So yeah, it had to be one of the other Republicans. Should be fun to see them get nailed.

More than 500 dead in Mecca from Hajj heatwave: estimate

As many as 550 observant Muslims from across the globe are dead from heat stroke during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca – the holy site in Saudi Arabia where the Prophet Mohammed defeated Buddha or Satan or someone in a spiritual battle – as the annual mass gathering unfortunately fell during the summer in a country that’s already freaking hot, the AP reports.

The estimate may have been on the high end and was based on a list crowdsourced from attendees and circulated online by parties unknown. A local paramedic who viewed the list told the AP it appeared to be largely accurate. Of course such a slapdash effort would not be necessary in the first place if Saudi officials would publicly provide accurate updates on the death toll and providing accurate information, which they aren’t. It’s almost like Bonesaw Regime doesn’t give a shit about regular people – especially foreign Muslims – and still wants the revenue bump from the traffic even though they’re already filthy rich from the shit underground that helped make this tragedy possible.

Harlem cat finally coaxed out of tree after five days of crying

A small black cat’s five day ordeal stuck in a tree on West 150th Street in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood finally ended Tuesday as a Long Island cat rescue expert was able to ease the furball down after at least two visits from FDNY firefighters failed to do the same, WABC reports.

Neighbors, who named the cat “PL Dunbar,” were concerned for its wellbeing after it cried incessantly during its time in the tree and this week’s heatwave approached. John Debacker, vice president of the animal rescue group Long Island Cat/Kitten Solution, Inc, arrived on the scene Tuesday night and coaxed Dunbar down from the sidewalk tree. The cat then promptly ran away.

Political expert makes call in extremely close primary

As of this writing Trump-endorsed Virginia State Senator John McGuire does lead far right extremist Congressman Bob Good 31,411 to 31,084 in the 5th District GOP primary with 98 percent of the vote counted, per the AP. So McGuire’s got the edge. But there’s a reason why not even actual election expert Dave Wasserman has called it yet. At 2 percent outstanding there are very roughly 1,250 votes left to be counted, more than enough room left for a swing with a 327-vote delta. And this is before we even get into a recount, which is likely. But sure, go ahead and declare victory anyway.

Judge tosses David DePape’s ex out of courtroom

A California state judge on Tuesday ordered MAGA conspiracy freak/pro-nudity activist Gypsy Taub tossed from the courthouse after multiple disruptions during the trial of her former partner, QAnon dipshit David DePape over his attempted murder of Paul Pelosi, the Independent reports.

“You have been trying to corruptly influence one or more jury members,” San Francisco Superior Court Judge Harry Dorfman told Taub after she handed out pieces of paper with the address of a conspiracy website she runs and the URL was found scrawled on a stall in women’s room.

Completely predictable yet unforced and fucking stupid

We can’t say with any sort of certainty how well an effort by Stephen Miller’s legal scam operation to block Biden’s executive order opening up a path to citizenship for the undocumented spouses of American citizens would play out legally – as in whether he be able to get one of the Texas MAGA federal judges to halt it. Standing alone would seem to be a big hurdle, even if it hasn’t always deterred the extremists on that bench before. But assuming they figure that out it’s then worth asking whether this is a good idea politically. Definitionally the undocumented immigrants’ spouses are American citizens, all eligible to vote, a vast majority of them either already know about the program or soon will when an immigration lawyer sends them a mailer advertising their services for the application process. It’s one thing to inflict his cuntish malice on the Dreamers/DACA kids, they can’t fight back at the ballot box (which is why Miller’s statement mostly focuses on them). Citizens with husbands and wives whose immigration status is null can however. Is trying to fuck that up for them on behalf of his Orange Allah the smartest move right now?

Orange Felon tries damage control over senility at CEO meeting

“‘Bunch of BS’: Attendee at Trump’s CEO Meeting Refutes Media Reports: ‘The attendee who spoke with The Daily Signal said Sorkin’s interpretation is wrong. (The Daily Signal granted the attendee anonymity to speak candidly about the private meeting.) ‘There was never a moment of meandering,’ the attendee said. ‘He was focused. In fact, he received a loud ovation at the end.’ The attendee added: ‘There was not one CEO who wasn’t impressed with what they heard from Trump. Everybody was clapping.’ Sorkin did not immediately reply to The Daily Signal’s request for comment,'” posted convicted felon former President Trump’s Truth Social account on Tuesday.

The anonymous quote comes in response to CNBC/New York Times finance guy Andrew Ross Sorkin’s recent reporting on CEOs who attended a meeting with the fat fuck last week who “said that [Trump] was remarkably meandering, could not keep a straight thought [and] was all over the map,” and that “These were people who I think might have been actually predisposed to [Trump but] actually walked out of the room less predisposed,” during a bit on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.” Sorkin also told MSNBC’s Morning Joe that “at one point, he discussed his plan to bring the corporate tax rate down from 21 percent to 20 percent and was asked about why he had chosen 20 percent. And he said, ‘Well, it’s a round number.’ That unto itself had a number of CEOs shaking their heads.”

Separately on Tuesday Variety editor Ramin Setoodeh, author of a new book on Donald’s reality TV career Apprentice in Wonderland, backed up Sorkin’s reporting in an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, telling her that “‘meandering’ and ‘confusing’ is right… He goes from one story to the next. He struggles with the chronology of events. He seems very upset that he wasn’t respected by certain celebrities in the White House. And then he’d go to a story about” the stupid reality show.

Hunter Biden losing his law license will certainly hurt his campaign

The disciplinary panel of the DC Bar recommended Hunter Biden have his law license suspended in Washington after he was found guilty of three federal gun charges in Delaware, NBC News reports, marking another setback for his political chances in November.

The move by the Office of the Disciplinary Counsel is fairly automatic after a lawyer who holds a DC Bar license is convicted of felonies.  The Office’s letter to the DC Appeals Court suggest the order means Hunter Biden “is suspended immediately from the practice of law in the District of Columbia pending resolution of” his federal appeal or future sentencing.

Thailand set to be first SE Asian country to legalize gay marriage

Acting on legislation passed by the lower house in March, the Senate of Thailand overwhelmingly passed a bill that would allow any two people to become engaged or married regardless of gender, the Washington Post reports.  The legislation now moves to the desk of King Vajiralongkorn, whose signature is considered a formality, and the law will take effect 120 days after it is formally published, making Thailand the first Southeast Asian country to recognize same-sex marriage.

“We celebrate the successful passing of the marriage equality bill and we celebrate the beginning of equal love,” Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin wrote on X on Tuesday. “‘Diversity’ is not ‘difference.’ May every love be beautiful and powerful.”

The bill passed the Senate by a 130-4 vote, with 18 abstaining. One aspect of the law that caused some debate was a provision that changed the words like “wife” and “husband” in Thai law to gender-neutral words like “spouse.” Same-sex marriage is already recognized in Taiwan and Nepal, while India and Israel have an unregistered domestic partnership and Cyprus allows for a recognized domestic partnership.
