Usage of the term “red herring,” which refers to an intentional distraction, typically used in fiction as in a plot device to mislead the audience, carries with it an implication that this is somehow being orchestrated to derail Jordan’s bid for the speakership. Perry’s a far right conspiracy freak under federal criminal investigation for his involvement in Trump’s post-2020 election coup attempt, so it’s really not a stretch to infer that he thinks Soros or whoever is behind the threats.

The pending crash-in-flames of Republican Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan’s run for the House Speakership will bring to an end an unexpected ascension of the jacketless nihilist who infamously has been in Congress since 2007 and has never written a bill that’s become law.  A meeting Thursday night between Jordan and 22 Republican opponents reportedly wasn’t an effort for Jordan to lobby the group, according to MSNBC, but more of the group urging Jordan to drop his effort because they are never, ever, ever going to support him.

Jordan’s career as a leader of the House GOP is effectively over.  He’ll still be the Republican leader on committees due to his seniority, but he will never be considered for a whip or Speaker position again.  His influence will seep away:  in the House, if you’re static, you’re dead.  He doesn’t have any coattails to ride on anymore; he’s burned all those bridges thanks to the threats his loyalists issued to try to get him Kevin McCarthy’s old job, and he screwed his buddy Steve Scalise along the way.

ABC News reports that Trump co-conspirator in the Fulton County racketeering case Ken Chesebro rejected a plea agreement presented by District Attorney Fani Willis that would have allowed him to avoid prison time and expunge his record after three years.  Offered in September, the deal would have been for a guilty plea to one felony racketeering charge, a formal letter of apology, a commitment to testify against his co-defendants, a $10,000 fine and three years’ probation.  If he completed the probation without violation, he could move to have the criminal conviction expunged from his record.  Chesebro’s trial is scheduled to open this week; his co-defendant in the “early trial” request, Sidney Powell, accepted a deal earlier today.
