After Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was indicted on various bribery charges, Governor Phil Murphy, a fellow Democrat, has called for him to step down immediately, the Washington Post reports.  The state Democratic Party chair echoed the sentiment, suggesting that Menendez could somehow step aside and be replaced temporarily until the charges are resolved, something not really possible constitutionally.

Menendez, who has served in the Senate since 2006, stepped down as chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, complying with a rule of the Democratic caucus.  (A call to Congressman George Santos’s office to check if there was a similar rule for Republican Congress members went unanswered.)

Yeah, fuck this guy. The last time Menendez was indicted Chris Christie was the governor and would’ve appointed a Republican to the seat if he’d resigned. That’s not the case anymore and we feel pretty confident there’s plenty of decent, electable Democrats in the Garden State who could take over and win a special election easily to maintain the Dem Senate majority. Time to walk the walk on integrity in contrast to the MAGA party and send this corrupt asshole packing.

A new CNN/SSRS survey of New Hampshire voters finds President Biden leading disgraced former President Trump 52 to 40 in the Granite State in a 2024 matchup, which means some intern fucked up and forgot to horse race-ify the result to make it seem more “competitive.”

With long-awaited rain in the forecast in the coming days, officials at Seattle Public Utilities asked 1.5 million residents to conserve water until enough rain falls to fill the strained mountain reservoirs that have been depleted after months of drought and little rainfall, ABC News reports.

The coming rains, however, won’t be enough to completely alleviate the lack of rain over the summer.  The region typically sees 26 inches of rain from May through September; this year, less than eight inches of rain fell during those months.  Ten percent of the state is in severe drought; another 43% is under a severe drought alert.

Last week’s unexpected launch of a Space Force satellite from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California was done with just 27 hours’ notice, a new record, Live Science reports.  But the launch of the satellite aboard the Alpha rocket apparently punched a literal hole in the ionosphere, appearing as a mysterious red spot in the night sky.

The satellite launch, done by contractor Firefly Aerospace, successfully deployed the Victus Nox–Latin for “conquer the night”–which will be used in a “space domain awareness” mission.  Firefly was contracted to undertake a successful rocket launch, including securing and loading the cargo, within 24 hours’ notice to demonstrate the US Space Force’s capability to rapidly respond to a threat from space.

The hole in the ionosphere, which was created after a gas plume from the rocket could be seen 1,000 miles from the launch site, isn’t anything to worry about.  Located between 50 and 400 miles above where gases are charged, the ionosphere glows red for a few hours after a rocket stage burns as it blasts toward space.  A similar phenomenon was seen after a Space X launch in Arizona in July.

A columnist at far right website PJ Media this week argued to readers that impeaching President Biden without any evidence of crimes could backfire on the GOP help him win reelection in 2024.

Dave McCormick, the Republican hedge fund CEO from Connecticut who lost a 2022 GOP Senate primary to New Jerseyan Mehmet Oz–who then lost to Democrat John Fetterman–announced his 2024 bid for the Senate, this time to challenge incumbent Democratic Bob Casey, CNN reports.

McCormick lost the May 2022 primary by just 950 votes out of more than 1.3 million cast, a race McCormick did not concede for more than a month.  In typical fashion, ex-president Donald Trump encourage Oz to simply declare victory on election night, whether he had the lead or not.

Even more serious than that is the question of why the hell he hasn’t complied with the production.
