Participating in a press conference hosted by Connecticut Democratic Governor Ned Lamont, Dr. Anthony Fauci warned of the “insidious” nature of growing community spread of the coronavirus around the United States.
Via teleconference, Dr. Fauci supported the statement of Dr. Deborah Birx that the pandemic is entering a “new phase,” a statement that President Trump has claimed Dr. Birx said because she “took the bait” of false narratives to attack Trump’s reelection campaign.
“The reason why she’s saying it’s a new phase is because throughout the country, when you have community spread, it’s much more difficult to get your arms around that and contain,” Dr. Fauci said.
Dr. Fauci specifically noted that the new outbreaks were not due to people being forced to work or live in close quarters, as many of the previous hot spots has been.
“Nursing home outbreaks, meatpacking plant outbreaks, prison outbreaks — it’s unfortunate that they occur but you know exactly what you’re dealing with and you can go in there and try and suppress the infection and contain it,” said Dr. Fauci. “Whereas when you have community spread it’s insidious.”
Dr. Fauci has not participated in the coronavirus briefings held by the White House, reportedly because President Trump is jealous of the popularity and trustworthiness Dr. Fauci enjoys among Americans, unlike Trump.
