- I’m slowly learning to no longer cringe whenever a news alert pings on my phone.
- For people who don’t think a Democratic administration can do better than Trump on vaccine rollout, the economy, civil rights, and… well… *everything*…. Just remember Trump’s inauguration celebration collected the most money in history (more than $100 million) and featured a parade of tractors as one of the highlights. Biden’s inaugural started with Bruce Springsteen and never waned from there.
- Every day in January from the 20th through the 29th this year will a palindromic date: 1-20-21, 1-21-21, 1-22-21, etc.
- The lights placed around the Reflecting Pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial for the inaugural should be made a permanent memorial to the people who died of coronavirus.
- Gaga, JLo, Garth Brooks were all fantastic during the inauguration. Amanda Gorman’s poem was incredible. But I think the award has to go to Ted Cruz for “Best Performance by an Inauguration Attendee Pretending He Didn’t Try to Overthrow the Republic Just Two Weeks Before.”
- If I were a donor to Steve Bannon’s fraudulent “Build the Wall” fund from which he personally pocketed about 20% of donations, I’d be pissed as hell that Trump pardoned him for his fraud. But then, it’s the same scam Trump does with his donors, so what should they expect?
- I have to fill my car’s tank with gas tomorrow to drive to a friend’s memorial service. This is only noteworthy because the last time I put a drop of gas in my car was March 12, 2020. Welcome to coronavirus commuting.
- Trump exiting job approval was 38.6% according to FiveThirtyEight, the lowest after one term of any post-war president except Jimmy Carter. The big difference: Carter’s legacy has only risen since he left office 45 years ago thanks to his statesmanship and charity work. Trump’s legacy won’t improve.
- Bit of trivia: Joe Biden becomes the second consecutive POTUS who doesn’t drink alcohol. Three of the last four (Bush, Florida Man and Biden) reportedly don’t drink.
- I was lucky enough to see an “old-timers” game in Philadelphia in 1979 at the old Veterans Stadium that featured Hank Aaron at first base and Willie Mays (who was about 48 years old at the time) in the outfield. Willie Mays at 48 was still better than a number of players today.
- As frustrating as it is to learn of all the screw-ups of the Trump administration after-the-fact, it’s good to know that those screw-ups are not ongoing and multiplying.
- Butch Bower sounds like a character in Boogie Nights. My guess is he’s going to be the Dirk Diggler of constitutional law.
- In the first 58 hours of the Biden Administration, he’s been far more progressive than I expected, with EOs canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline, improving workers’ rights, and reversing excessive immigration enforcement.
- Hearing Mitch McConnell complain about “minority rights” in the Senate made me literally LOL.
- I cannot wait for the day when the only time I hear from Mike Lindell is when I’m watching commercials on Fox News.
