Saying there is no longer a “credible threat,” the House sergeant-at-arms Timothy Blodgett sent a memo to members of Congress stating that the fence surrounding the Capitol will be scaled back in coming weeks, the Washington Post reports.
Capitol Police will reposition fencing to be closer to the Capitol building, allowing more pedestrian traffic around the building. The fencing, with razor wire atop, was installed around the complex after the January 6th domestic terrorist attack.
The memo noted that there will continue to be an “increased security presence” at the Capitol, with around National Guard troops being deployed through mid-May.
