There are no pediatric intensive care beds in the entire Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex area, according to the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, and there are just 75 ICU beds for adults, reports the Dallas Morning News.
The region has 1,500 ICU beds in general to serve the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. The area has seen a surge in coronavirus cases as the delta variant sweeps through the region. The hospital council said more than 340 patients were on ventilators.
Hospital staffing and beds are in short supply in Texas: While Republican Governor Greg Abbott has refused to implement any mask or social distancing requirements, he is soliciting help from health care professionals in other states.
