The Taliban’s Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the same leader who negotiated with Mike Pompeo for an Afghanistan “peace” agreement has given his soldiers the go-ahead to begin public hangings of suspected criminals. Eyewitness reports indicate that the Trump sponsored Taliban government recently hung an individual suspected of having attempted a kidnapping.
NPR reports that the “the Taliban hung a dead body from a crane in the main square of Herat city in western Afghanistan, a witness said Saturday, in a gruesome display that signaled a return to some of the Taliban’s methods of the past.”
“Wazir Ahmad Seddiqi, who runs a pharmacy on the side of the square, told The Associated Press that four bodies were brought to the main square and three bodies were moved to other parts of the city for public display.”
Republicans are no doubt outraged that none of the four people hung were reportedly Americans. One can easily imagine someone like Lindsay Graham complaining, “After Mr. Trump released 5000 of their fighters you’d think the least they could do for us is find some leftover American contractor and string him up for us so we could weaponize that story against Biden.”
Al Jazeera reports that: “Ziaulhaq Jalali, a Taliban-appointed district police chief in Herat, said Taliban members rescued a father and son who had been abducted by four kidnappers after an exchange of gunfire. He said a Taliban fighter and a civilian were wounded by the kidnappers, and that the kidnappers were killed in crossfire.”
“Since the Taliban overran Kabul on August 15 and seized control of the country, Afghans and the world have been watching to see whether they will recreate their harsh rule of the late 1990s, which included public stoning and limb amputation of alleged criminals, some of which took place in front of large crowds at a stadium.”
Many are concerned at seeing the Taliban using the same methods called for by pro-Trump January 6th insurrectionists. During the January 6th ‘Trump Putsch’, Trump supporters were observed walking the halls of the US Capitol chanting “Hang Mike Pence“, along with random shouts of “We’re going to murder that bitch Pelosi!”
