Eric Lander, the director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy for President Joe Biden, has resigned his Cabinet position after he was the subject of numerous complaints about abusive management techniques he employed, Reuters reports.
Respectful treatment of workers was a key point of the Biden transition team, with Biden even mentioning it in the televised swearing-in ceremonies of early appointees.
“I am devastated that I caused hurt to past and present colleagues by the way in which I have spoken to them,” Lander said in the resignation letter submitted to Biden, noting “things I said, and the way I said them, crossed the line at times into being disrespectful and demeaning.”
