A Texas woman was in the process of filing a domestic abuse complaint with Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents when her husband opened fire, killing her as she held their baby, NBC News reports.
Thirty-four year old Takara Hightower was in the living room of her home being interviewed by two NCIS agents when her husband, Gregory Hightower, a 37-year-old Navy recruiter who was in another part of the home in Humble, Texas, came into the room firing a handgun.
Gregory Hightower hit one of the NCIS agents in the stomach and shoulder as the agents returned fire. Takara Hightower was hit in the back as she tried to flee the house with the couple’s infant child, who was unharmed. Takara died of her wounds. Although he was reportedly struck in the stomach, Gregory was able to flee the scene and remains at large.
