Meet John Cardillo. Even though he has the vaunted “blue check” next to his name, you’ve likely never heard of the former Newsmax host and one-time NYPD officer. There’s good reason for that, as you can imagine. Cardillo claims that this security camera still photo–allegedly from Mark Houck’s Bucks County home–proves beyond a doubt that the FBI sent in its highly-trained Hostage Rescue Team to arrest the anti-choice activist charged with shoving a 72-year-old health clinic volunteer escort to the ground twice as the man helped clinic patients make their way through a phalanx of rabid fundamentalists.
Cardillo, in that special brand of stupid that flourishes with conservatives, declares the hat seen in the above pic is the telling detail: an eagle on the cap is *obviously* the emblem from the FBI’s HRT patch. Of course, it isn’t. It doesn’t have the rocker on the bottom, nor does it have the eagle carrying chains. It’s just an eagle. But not just any eagle: it’s the Philadelphia Eagles, the region’s favorite football team. Wily internet sleuths even identified the brand–a New Era 59Fifty Omaha cap–which prompted Twitter to issue an alert from a new feature it has to highlight crowd-debunking efforts:
