With all outstanding ballots counted, Dem Kris Mayes has defeated MAGA asshole Abe Hamadeh by a razor-thin 1,254,612 to 1,254,102 votes in the race for Arizona Attorney General, KJZZ projects.
The race now heads to an automatic recount in which it’s unlikely, but certainly not impossible for Hamadeh to ultimately prevail. The largest delta in a statewide race to end up being overturned after a recount since 2000 was the 215 vote lead for incumbent Republican Senator Norm Coleman in the 2008 Minnesota race against Democrat challenger Al Franken, whose campaign identified 953 improperly rejected absentee ballots and successfully to have them counted. Franken ended up winning by 223 votes when those ballots were added. The overall turnout in that race, 2,885,555, was not that far off from the 2,508,714 total turnout in this year’s Arizona Attorney General contest, which is to say that there is arguably room for the lead to change after a full recount.
