Come January there will be 12 women serving as state governors, a new high over the previous (and current) record of nine serving simultaneously, FiveThirtyEight reports. The number of women serving in Congress will remain roughly the same however and will end up between 143 and 147 from the current 145 (about 27% of the total) depending on the outcome of four uncalled races.
It’s a hell of a lot of progress in what for pretty much all of human history has been a man’s line of work, but a quarter ain’t good enough for the fairer half of our population. It was largely women voters who stepped up again and again and unfucked the messes that largely male voters made over these last several years. It was women leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris who were instrumental in getting important legislation passed in the last two.
