Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg hired a former US Department of Justice Acting Associate Attorney General who has experience investigating Donald Trump, a sign that the dormant criminal investigation into the former president’s fraud and obstruction is resurrected, the New York Times reports.
Bragg hired Matthew Colangelo, who has also worked with the New York State Attorney General on investigations into Trump financial fraud, which has led to a guilty plea by Trump Org CEO Allen Weisselberg and which at the moment has a jury considering criminal charges against the company that they illegally compensated company executives.
When he took office at the beginning of 2022, two high-level investigators working on a criminal case investigating Trump financial fraud consisting of the manipulation of property values to avoid taxes and to bolster lending applications. Their resignations were seen as a sign that Bragg had backed off pursuing a criminal case against Donald Trump and his conniving offspring.
