Damar Hamlin asked medical personnel if his team, the Buffalo Bills, won the Monday game against the Bengals during which the player collapsed on the field in apparent heart failure, CBS reports.
“We would like to share there has been substantial improvement over the last 24 hours,” said Dr. Timothy Pritts of University of Cincinnati Medical Center during a midday briefing. “We have significant concern about him after the event that happened on the field. He is making substantial progress. As of this morning, he is beginning to awaken.” Pritts said that Hamlin has been able to write on a board to communicate with family and his medical team, raising hope that his “neurological function is intact.” Pritts noted that Hamlin asking about the outcome of the game leads him to think Hamlin has maintained an encouraging level of awareness of what was going on when he went down. The game was suspended by the league after Hamlin’s injury and will not be resumed. The league is currently working on figuring out what to do with regard to standings.
