Random thoughts Friday, Volume CXXIV

  • I mean, I like to read when I’m on the can as much as the next guy, but I don’t keep file boxes in the bathroom.
  • Joe Biden didn’t criminalize Donald Trump’s actions.  Various Congresses and presidents over the past ~240 years did when they enacted the laws Trump broke.  Those laws were on the books long before Biden went to Washington in the 1970s, and they were all designed to stop people like Trump.  The citizens of Florida, not Joe Biden, determined there was enough evidence to indict Trump.  Trump’s upset that the law is being applied to him, because as with most Republicans in office, he thinks he’s above it.
  • Anybody seen Melania lately?  Is she hungover or still drinking?
  • The PGA will undoubtedly make some rules changes due to its merger with LIV, like instead of a one-stroke penalty for illegally moving a ball, you’ll lose your right hand.
  • The same people who claim children are traumatized by wearing masks think the periodic active shooter drills in schools don’t impact children’s learning or development at all.
  • Democrats:  Let’s wait and see what happens with Hunter Biden, but if he broke the law, he should pay the price.  Republicans:  NO!  NEVER!  YOU CAN’T EVEN DISCUSS CHARGES AGAINST A REPUBLICAN, AND DONALD TRUMP SHOULD BE SAINTED, YOU MARXIST.
  • Went down a rabbit hole watching videos of supposedly-knowledgable gun owners and gun shop operators accidentally discharging guns in stores and ranges (with some causing injuries), and I now want Democrats to pursue laws requiring gun shops and ranges to have full medical facilities and fully-trained and -licensed EMTs on staff 24/7, with an ambulance on stand-by at the door.  If they can shut down abortion clinics based on their false claims of improving patient safety, we can make onerous rules for the safety of gun shops.
  • Republicans are all for local government being the predominant authority and free market economics ruling policy… until they want state and federal governments to stomp on local LGBTQ Pride parades and curriculum approved by local school boards.
  • Archeologists believe they found a pre-human hominoid species that buried their dead and used symbols as a proto-written language, indications of a highly-functional brain, but they died out for some reason about 100,000 years ago, 20,000 years before homo sapiens appeared on the scene.  Imagine where we would be if we had 200 centuries more of evolution under our belt.
  • There are two types of people in this world:  the people who bathe and the people assigned to seats next to me on a flight.
  • Chris Licht believe the most important thing he could do at CNN was raise viewership, even while sacrificing journalistic integrity.  He sought to make news, not report it.
  • I’m not too concerned that current versions of AI will kill humanity.  I’m concerned the rejected early versions of AI will resurrect themselves and destroy humanity.
  • Mike Pence launched his presidential campaign to a collective yawn.  The former Vice President message:  we need new leadership.  Did I mention he’s a former Vice President and he wants new leadership?
  • Pat Robertson, Rush Limbaugh and Ken Starr meet up in Hell.  (There’s no joke, just an announcement.)
  • George Santos’s sugardaddies’ names will be exposed soon, and in all likelihood, Santos will claim he is each of their’s child and that the money for his bail was a completely legitimate investment in his alchemy start-up.
  • Lost in the shuffle this week was the acknowledgment from the top House Republicans on various committees that no documents they’ve uncovered point to any corruption by Joe Biden.  Democrats know how to choose wisely.
  • Serious props to Spartan.  As news of the Trump indictment broke, I was on my way to my mother-in-law’s birthday celebration in California.  Once again, he undertook the Herculean task of keeping the feed going, swimming through swarming news reports.
  • While the seafood selection at the local grocery varies, they’ll invariably have salmon, my favorite.  If not, then it’s cod, flounder or catfish.  Much lower on the list:  trout.  I like it, but I don’t think I do it justice in the kitchen.
  • We’re not at the end of the journey, but we’ve at least left pit row.  We’ll see who finishes first:  Bragg, Smith, Willis or James.
