A new survey by Monmouth University finds President Joe Biden leading disgraced former President Trump 47 to 40 percent when comparing two separate questions on whether respondents were open to voting for them. With Biden it was 36 percent “Will definitely vote” plus 11 percent “Probably” while for Trump it was 26 percent “Will definitely vote” plus 14 percent “Probably.”
The poll overall found weak support for a third party candidate, especially when respondents were informed they have no chance of winning and would just end up electing Trump (or Biden). In a hypothetical question “If you thought that voting for a third-party ticket could lead to the election of Donald Trump, would you vote for Trump, Joe Biden, or the third-party ticket?” 43 percent said Biden, 33 percent said Trump, and 20 percent said third party. For the opposite question with Biden, it was tighter at 39 percent Biden, 37 percent Trump, and 20 percent third party again.
