At least 117 people in 34 states have contracted salmonella poisoning after eating cut cantaloupe–sold both as an individual product or as part of fruit salads–pushing officials to warn people not to eat the fruit if they don’t know the farm where it came from, the Washington Post reports.
Two brands, Malichita or Rudy, have been linked to the known cases, with the products having been sold at Kwik Trip, Bix Produce, Kroger, Sprouts Farmers Market and Trader Joe’s stores around the country. Earlier this month, the companies recalled their whole fruit from stores, but failed to recall fruit that was sent to processors.
