The NRSC and its chair Senator Steve Daines on Tuesday filed an amicus brief in US v Trump which warned that last month’s appellate ruling denying the fat fuck’s immunity claim’s “will not be as limited as the DC Circuit thinks. The panel assures readers that its holding will not set the country on a slippery slope towards the complete criminalization of political differences because Trump is the first former President to be prosecuted but fails to consider the obvious response: No prosecutor has ever tried this type of case before because no court has previously said that they could, and prosecutors typically exercise restraint in uncharted waters. The DC Circuit opinion is akin to a loaded gun lying on the table that future prosecutors can now wield against Presidents (and former Presidents) of all political persuasions. The DC Circuit seems to believe that partisan actors will be able to resist the temptation to use that weapon against their political enemies; anyone who pays the slightest attention to American politics knows better.”
